Have you ever believed in something so much that you felt like you would explode? Have you ever had a passion for helping and advocating for others? Growing up with a vision impairment, I discovered that I felt all of these things. This led me to pursuing a career as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. I get to work with students that are struggling with the same issues that I did growing up. My students relate to me because of my vision impairment, and I can advocate for their needs in a way that others may not be able to. I absolutely love my job, and I am continuously looking for ways to improve my skills.
This is why I am now pursuing a Master’s of Science in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy degree from Salus University. As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, I work very closely with children ranging in ages from Preschool through High School. With this Master’s degree, I would be able to work with adults, and be able to help them become successful in their everyday lives. Whether it is help with cooking, cleaning, reading, living independently or providing Assistive Technology, I will have the necessary knowledge to empower and encourage them. Once this degree is accomplished, I may even pursue a degree in Music Therapy, but I need to complete this Master’s degree first.
Thank you for taking the time to read my essay. Hopefully it inspired you to achieve your goals and dreams.
