If I could earn a living doing what I loved most, I would open a school. I love to help people and I have a lot of passions. If I could combine all of these, I would be doing what I loved most.
Autistic children and underprivileged children are the people that I love the most. I think more than just ‘their situation’ is in need of help, it’s everything surrounding their situation that adds or subtracts to that.
I love to be outside. I would love to offer classes on kayaking, skiing, rock climbing, ball sports, swimming, and therapeutic horseback riding. There is a therapeutic side to all of these, and a side that just provides joy.
I love the arts. I would offer cooking, gardening, painting, sculpture and many more classes to teach passion, creativity, exposure to colors and materials, and how to work with your hands.
I love to teach. I currently work with autistic children and I am amazed everyday by them. It may sound cliche, but it is true. Each person, whether typical, autistic or with another special need, learns in their own way. There is no cookie cutter or “normal” way to teach children. My school would be specifically designed to cater toward each child’s learning abilities and disabilities with creative mediums.
If I could run this school, and be doing what I loved most, children would learn to value themselves and others, find passion, take risks, try new things, and enjoy life.
