Cancer is a disease caused by the uncontrolled division of cells. Due to its transforming nature, we have yet to determine cures for the various cancers that we have encountered so far. Everyone has been affected by cancer through someone they know or someone they have heard that is battling cancer. This is how devastating its effect has been on our world. Even I have had a personal experience with cancer as my uncle passed away from liver cancer years ago. As time goes on and our everyday life is evolving, it is also difficult to determine the exact causes of these various cancers. However, in our present time, cancer research has led to so many innovations in treatments against cancer. This is why I want to become an Oncologist, which is a doctor who specializes in the treatment of people with cancer. It is very important to me to step right into the field that is working so hard to change people’s lives. Ever since high school, I have attended walks like the Breast Cancer walk to help support cancer research. I want to stand right along those in their battle with cancer. No longer will the detection of cancer mean the end of living. After completing my Biology major at the University at Albany, I plan to attend medical school to become a doctor and then continue to complete my residency at a hospital. Somewhere in this plan, I would also like perform some research in a lab.
