My dream is to be a child psychologist. So many people are in need of counseling services due to everyday stressors, children are especially subjected to not only their own worries and developmental changes, but also that of their care givers. Typically parents are unaware of how their behavior and words affect their children causing behavioral problems that parents are left at a loss on what to do. Children are easily influenced and molded, therefore, they need proper guidance and coping techniques to deal with everyday life as well. Helping children and their families better adapt to whatever situation they are in, that therapy will make for a stronger family with better communication leading to healthier, more productive individuals as they go through life. If I can help children and their families become stronger individuals, in return they will be a better influence on others around them and to society as a whole. People do not have to grow up and continue to live in a state of relative dysfunction. As a psychologist, I would focus on the children and their families to learn to communicate and respect each other not only for their similarities, but for their differences as well. By instilling this quality on my future clients, my hopes are they live their lives in the same manner with everyone they meet.
Once I have completed my bachelor’s degree, I plain on graduate school. This award will help me obtain the financial means of accomplishing that dream.
