Dear Scholarship Committee,
I would like to be considered for this scholarship. I currently attend Daytona State College, and I am on track to complete my AA in December of 2014. I plan to attend Flagler College in Saint Augustine.
If admitted, I plan enroll in the College of Communications and major in journalism and minor in film studies. I am anxious to explore all forms of communication and gain a better understanding of media studies, whether it be print, electronic or digital.
My interest in the field of journalism stems from a long standing fascination with the arts. I was fortunate enough to participate in a study abroad program in Italy last summer which made me realize the importance of the writing and spoken word.
Although I plan to pursue a career in journalism, I also a fiction writer. As a high school student, my poems and short stories were published in “Teen Ink” and “Aeolus” I also attended the “Firespark” and “Duke University Young Writers” program during the summers of 2010 and 2011. I have worked as a writer, staff member and editor of both my high school and college literary magazines. Recently, I received a FCSAA State Publication Award for “Best Fiction” in seventeen Division A schools. I am anxious to begin my junior year at a college where I know I will receive an excellent education. I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Ian Hartley
