“If there was a problem, yo, I’ll solve it” happens to be the only line of Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” that I actually know. For that, I am thankful. However, I find myself shamefully reciting that particular line every time I am asked what I love doing the most. I am a fixer, a problem solver, and a distributor of solutions to any dilemma.
To hold a career in an area where I could channel my inner Vanilla Ice, solving problems day in and day out, would be the greatest achievement. Naturally, I have gravitated towards both psychology and nursing, as both are fields centered around mending those in need. As I take the steps to continue my education in these areas, I also intend to fulfill internships during the summer and speak with professionals to gain experience and insight one cannot learn in the classroom. Listening to the advice, warnings, and stories that range from horror to success of those who work in these fields assures me this is the path I wish to take.
Nursing and psychology both have the potential to have worldwide impacts. However, I would be satisfied even if my name does not go down in history. To be able to help individual people and their families will be enough for me. I may not ever change the entire world, but I will have the ability to change someone’s own world every single day and I cannot wait.
