Most teenagers, once they graduate high school, dream of being doctors, firefighters, or teachers. Well I see myself working my dream job as a character designer at Walt Disney Animation Studios. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawing new shapes, characters, and ideas that I created in my mind, and to this day have applied them to paper so it comes to life. I am determined to become a character designer because traditional drawings and concepts are the basis for most things that we enjoy today, such as movies and video games. I want future artists to see that hand-drawn animation or hand-drawn sketches opens the door to a variety of ideas that can eventually lead to something bigger than you anticipate.
If and when I do become a character designer, I want audiences to reminisce about the wonders of hand-drawn animation, as in the wonders we saw in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs where the Princess was swept off of her feet and carried by her Prince Charming into his kingdom. I’m going to work hard through college to get my degree in animation, and apply to numerous internships to learn new things and gain experience in the field so I can become familiar with it. I plan on sketching and creating more of my own characters from inspirations I find from music, books, and movies so that one day my characters will be loved by children and adults around the world.
