I am 44 years old and did not go to college after high school because I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career. I’ve felt lost and have not found it personally fulfilling doing jobs which paid the bills but I did not enjoy. Then, for a work project, I took a 3 day class on web design which I found fun and I was good at it. I recently decided this is what I want to do as a career. I have enrolled at Leeward Community College as a digital media major with a focus on web design. Having exposure on the internet through websites and social media is important for business, organizations, and people who want to share their message. I feel this will be a career I will be able to enjoy doing for the rest of my life. I plan to earn my Associate’s degree first then transfer to a university to earn my Bachelor’s degree. After graduation I plan to start my own company. I would like to gain experience by volunteering my services to help organizations which focus on improving social conditions to better develop their websites and promote their services using social media. This will help organizations to get out information on their services to a wider population. This would also allow me to create examples of my work to reference for future clients while building my credibility and improving my community.
