Music, without a doubt, is influencing life and the world around us. From my first years of studying music, my goals have expanded from learning a wide variety of musical instruments, or becoming a professor of music to now desiring to write, produce, and play music of various genres. I have already written some music with movies, TV and video games in mind. If there is one category of music that I believe is in need of improvement, is Christian music. I am not saying that it is poor in any way; in general, it is catchy, easy to listen to, and meaningful. However, I would love to change the quality of Christian music. Without changing the message or depth, I would try to make this genre of music more complex and even more multifaceted lyrics. I am not ruling out the value of simple Christian songs, but there is an excess of just “ok” songs. Christians must work to attain excellence in all we do if we truly believe that the One we are writing for is extraordinary. Writing and producing music is what I truly want to do with my life. I once heard that in order to create music all sorts of people will enjoy, you must create a well-thought out song, listen to it a hundred times, and still not get sick of it. I hold by this way of writing music, to please people and honor the one or ones for whom the music is written.
