My number one passion has always been dancing. It was a creative outlet for me when I was younger and it helped shape who I am today by giving me confidence, discipline and a respect for the human body. If I could spend my life doing anything, it would be to bring and encourage this art form among children in more communities around the world. Unfortunately, our schools and communities are being forced to eliminate programs due to lack of funding. In most cases, the artistic programs are the first to go because they are seen as the most expendable. In order to bring these programs back, the first step is to bring awareness of just how important artistic programs are. There have been numerous studies that show children who have an artistic outlet perform better in every area of their schooling. The next and most difficult step is finding funding. Each community could apply for grants and hold fundraisers to help with the costs and volunteers would be an absolute necessity. Once these two main obstacles are overcome, I believe these programs would flourish in communities everywhere. If every child would get involved, the benefits could change the world. There would be less childhood obesity and therefore fewer health issues. Children would gain confidence and learn respect and discipline which could decrease bullying and depression. These are only a few examples of the many benefits artistic programs could have and I hope that someday my dream will become reality.
