Becoming a Registered Dietician is my number one career goal. As I advance through my education, I will incorporate a holistic approach to clinical nutrition, and naturopathic medicine. I will strive to see each one as different paths that converge upon a single discipline rather than dividing them into unconnected specialties. As a Registered Dietician, I would like to mentor my patients by encouraging lifestyle change, including nutrition and exercise, to increase their quality of life. I plan on achieving this goal by emphasizing balance over perfection. As I gain experience in the dietetic profession, I will also improve my community. I would like to set up a program for people who want to change their lifestyles; especially, those who do not know how or think they cannot afford it. It would be a knowledge-based program in which they learn step-by-step direction on how to change their harmful habits. If you give a man an apple, he will have nutrients for the day, but if you teach a man the importance of a balanced life, he can have a nutrient rich existence. In this country healthy eating is often viewed as an ideology, which, by necessity, takes all the fun out of life. People have come to believe that if we are eating food, which tastes good, we must be risking our health. I want to encourage people to return to the basics, to understand that the food we eat must nourish the body not destroy it.
