“Sometimes opportunities float right past your nose, work hard, and be ready. When an opportunity comes your way, you can grab it.” (Julie Andrews) I have tried to take advantage of every opportunity throughout my college career; this has furthered my passion for music and allowed me to prepare for the future. Everything you do, and everyone you meet, is an opportunity to improve yourself. Thus I strive to excel in every aspect of my education, not only grades but also my character. Eventually I hope to receive a masters in music performance this will help me to establish my career as a professional performer.
Although taking advantage of every opportunity has been enlightening it is also one the greatest sacrifices I have ever made. The biggest hurdle throughout my college career has been financial stability. Once seen as a burden, I now find myself looking at my financial struggle as an opportunity. Not only has it forced me to become independent with a strong sense of self-reliance, but it has inspired me to develop a scholarship program of my own. Music has been, and always will be, my life but recently I have realized that I am meant to do more than just perform. As much as I want to say that my financial situation is unique, there will be students with struggles much harder in years to come. If, as a performer, I can develop a program that will help even one student—it will be worthwhile.
