Drum, Music Recording
I have been interested in drums for as long as I can remember. When I was very young I remember trying to imitate drummers from the bands I was listening to at the time. I had a toy field goal kicker that would kick a ball through the goal posts when I pressed down on the player's helmet. I remember taking the goal posts apart and using them as drumsticks. I would use those "drumsticks" to play on the side of my bed when listening to my favorite drummers. My interest in drumming hasn't diminished at all since those days.
I joined the school band program when I was in the fifth grade and I have played the drums for over 30 years in a variety of musical settings such as marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, worship team and home recording. A group of neighbors and schoolmates that I kept in touch with over the years contacted me sometime ago and asked me to record drum tracks for them. I'm privileged to have had the opportunity to play on one of their albums.
I'm very thankful for the great drum instruction I have received over the years. In high school I studied with a drummer who played with musicians and bands such as The Ohio State University Jazz Ensemble, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Woody Herman, Diane Schuur, Maynard Ferguson and Tony Bennett. I have no doubt that these lessons played a big role in me winning the 1987 Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in high school. I have also attended Capital University’s Summer Drumset Workshop and a Drum Fantasy Camp at Seton Hall University. Some of the instructors involved at these university events were performers/educators such as Steve Houghton, Ed Soph, Steve Smith and Dave Weckl.
Drum lessons really helped advance my understanding of music and drumming. I improved my reading, listening and technical skills and even began transcribing drum parts. I now use Sibelius software for transcriptions. I enjoy passing along to students what I've learned from my excellent teachers and would be happy to help with just about any style of music (Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, Latin, etc.).

Drum, Music Performance, Percussion
Originally from New York City, I started playing drums when I was 10 years old and studied with studio/Broadway drummer Roger Mancuso. After graduating from Ohio University, I studied and was managed by the famous studio drummer/author Gary Chester. As a full-time working musician I have played on many national commercials, Broadway, off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway shows. I was signed for three years to Carrere Records, a subsidiary of Warner Bros./Reprise Records. I have toured Europe and most of the USA with acts such as Luther Allison, Johnny Winter, Big Bill Morganfield, Bo Diddley, Joey Dee, Gary US Bonds, Zoot Sims, Jeremy Steig, Bobby Lewis, Alex Chilton (From The Box Tops), Eddie Brigati (From The Young Rascals), Johnny Rivers, Little Anthony (From The Imperials) and many more.
I also founded the Columbus, Ohio band Long Tall Deb and The Drifter Kings. Whose debut CD, "Diamonds On The Desert Floor", was produced by Alligator recording artist Michael Hill. The CD was nominated by the Blues Foundation of Memphis, Tennessee as a top-5 finalist at the 2011 International Blues Challenge and has been receiving airplay on stations across North America, South America, and Europe as well as being honored as a “pick to click” on Sirius/ XM’s “B.B. King’s Bluesville”. It was also featured as a winner of Blues Revue Magazine’s “Sponsor the Bands Contest” in the May/ June 2011 issue.
I have been teaching since 1978 and many of my students have gone on to pursue professional music careers. I am a very well-rounded musician and teacher, experienced in many aspects of musical training and performance. I have worked with every age level, from the beginner to advanced student, in one-on-one as well as classroom settings. I am patient and will bring out the best in my students. You will definitely benefit from my years of musical experience.
Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Piano, Music Performance, Music Theory, Percussion, Songwriting
I started playing music about 18 years ago and have been playing drums for 16 years. I have played in styles ranging from, intimate free jazz duos to swingin' big bands. Acoustic indie folk to indie pop. Blues bands to country cover groups. All of which have been in a studio and recorded at some point. I like to bring this diversity and experience to my teaching, being able to give my students what they want to learn. And show them how to execute in professional situations.
I graduated from Capital University with a degree in Jazz Studies for Percussion, which is like a specialized performance degree. While there, I was in the top big band, top chamber percussion ensemble, and top small jazz combo. I was also in the wind symphony, rock band, and jazz percussion ensemble. Also, I was able to study all kinds of music and styles of playing. I picked up the bass and guitar, too.
I have been teaching for about 2 years and actively gigging for around 4 years. I am constantly trying to push myself to be better and learn more.
