A lifelong musician and songwriter, Ian S has extensive experience teaching guitar and piano to students age 3 and up both as a private music instructor and as a teacher at the Institute of Music for Children. With 25 years experience in guitar and piano, Ian has studied and performed with several award-winning music artists, and has written and recorded over one hundred songs. He plays and teaches a variety of styles on both the guitar and the piano, from classical to jazz to rock. Ian is patient, friendly, and loves sharing the gift of music.

Ian was the guitarist in the Princeton University Jazz Ensemble for 3 seasons, was selected from a nationwide pool of musicians to perform at a special music event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was the recipient of the New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts Education for the category of Instrumental Music.

As a Music Teacher, my strengths are Patience, Experience and Encouragement. I am a Father of 4 and have had the joy in teaching them Guitar, Saxophone, Basic Theory and more. I have taught at Columbia College Chicago and at School of Rock (NYC/NJ). I currently teach children and young adults how to make simple musical instruments at The Friends of The Family Day Care Center in Mutuchen, NJ as well as producing Creative Sound Workshops at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and various Sound Art Festivals.

My love for the piano started at a very young age. I have been studying the piano for over 18 years and teaching for 10. I have extensively studied classical music, Persian music, advanced music theory, music history, and composition. I have been a recipient of several scholarships to various music programs and festivals, including the Schlern Music Festival in Italy in 2008.

After studying with a world renowned pianist and teacher, I received my Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University in 2009. I have recently moved to New York City from the Washington DC area, where I taught both privately and in group lessons for nine years. I have experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. Prior to my move to New York, I was also the pianist and choir director at a church for four years.

Music will always be the strongest passion in life and I hope to continue sharing my love for music with students for many years to come.

A busy professional drummer/composer, Sean has a Bachelor of Music from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music and also plays piano, bass and guitar.
Only 27, Sean has launched an impressively diverse career, crossing over musical worlds to perform with jazz artists such as Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, Shelly Berg, and Alan Pasqua to rock veterans Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers, George Porter of the Meters, Michael Shrieve of Santana, Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads and Greg Ginn of Black Flag. He also tours and records with contemporary pop outfits Francis and the Lights, Shenandoah and the Night, and 2AM Club.

I have been playing piano since I was a young child and have always had a passion for music. I apprenticed in China under a master piano teacher for 15 years and then immediately started performing in many different venues. 14 years ago, I started teaching piano and have enjoyed sharing my love of music with others. I am very patient with students and am very open to the type of music they would like to play. From pop music to classical, beginning to advanced, I am well versed. If there is a specific piece you want to play, I can fit it to your level. In my lessons, I try to make each experience meaningful and joyful.

Music has been part of my life since the age of three. My first inspiration was my mother, who was a working singer in the 70's. My second inspiration and mentor was my High School Music Teacher, Mr. Wynn, and I am grateful for all he has taught me. I am passionate about teaching and would like to have the opportunity to be as inspirational to my students as Mr. Wynne was to me. As you can see from my resume below, I have been very active in performing and teaching. At the age of 37, I feel even stronger that the choice I made to make MUSIC my career was the absolute correct one. I believe in the Bible principle that it is better to give than to receive. Teaching is a major facet of music that allows me to do this.

Hi! My name is Elisabeth, aka Libby to my friends. I teach piano and voice lessons both in my apt in Park Slope and at your house. 

I'm primarily trained as an opera singer, but I also love working on musical theater (it was my gateway drug into opera!). My little sister is a wonderful singer- songwriter, and she got me interested in helping people sing well while playing their guitars.

I also love teaching piano lessons. I try to keep them fun and give you a good base technique at the same time. At your first lesson, we'll be talking about kitten villages and bouncing around the keyboard with balloons. It's a little zany, but it works, and we always have fun!

Music has been the core of my life since I started playing the piano by ear at age 10. I took lessons with a local teacher and played in rock bands through high school. I went to the Berklee School in Boston for 2 years after playing professionally after high school, then transferred to Rutgers University, majoring in Jazz and Classical Piano. While in college I started playing for Dance Classes, which became full time for 10 years. I then moved to NYC, freelancing as a touring and session musician. Now I want to give back what I have learned.

I was born in Amsterdam, Holland, where my father worked as an opera singer. While listening to vocal warm-up arpeggios, my mother bounced me on her knee and taught me rhythms and rhymes.

In my family we beatbox, play piano, sing melodies, and are generally just musical. The family moved to the States in 1995 where my parents worked as music teachers. My Dad is a voice professor at the University of Wisconsin, and my Mom runs an amazing music program at Country View Elementary School in Verona, WI.

In the small town of Verona I played in the band program throughout high-school where I had an amazing and demanding music teacher and highly talented friends. The Drumset became my passion and I played, blissfully and recklessly, as often possible.

Shayna is a percussionist who was active in the San Francisco Bay Area for several years before moving to Brooklyn, New York. Shayna has worked as a teacher of percussion, piano, music theory and history for over five years and has a great deal of experience working with children, high school students and adults. She performs classical, contemporary, avant-garde, rock and pop, among other genres in the US, Japan, and Europe. She has recorded for many accomplished composers around the world and she is an active member of various ensembles and bands both in New York and the Bay Area.
Graduating with honors in both music and mathematics from Mills College in Oakland, CA in 2007, she studied percussion under William Winant.
