I have been performing, recording, and teaching music for the past five years. After getting a degree in music theory, I began playing with a band full time. In addition to playing all around Austin, I have traveled to places like Seattle, Nashville, and Waikiki to play shows, record, and interview with with my band on live radio. Songs from our album were played on Austin's own KGSR. We also played on Fox 7's morning show, Good Day Austin. I enjoy playing and teaching a variety of instruments and a variety of genres. To me, understanding music is key to unlocking your full potential for artistic expression. When I teach, I incorporate both what I learned in school and on stage. *** Lesson Details *** My goal is not to teach my students how to play a few cool songs on their ...
I found when I learn new instruments that the biggest obstacle is technique. For my Beginners I concentrate on technique and rudiments
For intermediate students I concentrate on improvisation and learning songs verbatim.
For my advanced students I concentrate on improvisation of coordination exercises and odd meters and tempo modulations
Hi I'm Mike! I've been playing/teaching drums for over 20 years. I started out playing in Punk and Metal bands. I later got interested in Jazz which led me to the University of North Texas. I graduated there in 99 and boy did I learn a thing or two. Attending such a highly competitive school taught me a few things about learning new concepts and setting goals. I have since adopted a philosophy that yields results and have eliminated the "busy work" approach that most drum teachers use. My main interest is to see my students achieve their dreams! *** Lesson Details *** I'm a pretty laid back teacher. I let student drive the intensity of the lessons. I have a few set goals that all my students must achieve but it is up to the student to determine how soon they meet them. ...
Matt M. was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and found an interest in music as soon as his mom started playing songs through her belly with headphones and a record player. He moved down to Austin, Texas at the age of three where he continued to experiment with toy pianos and banging pots and pans. At ten years old he discovered an enthusiasm for guitar and saxophone. Picking up those instruments for a couple of years brought him to playing drum set, jamming with his brother and friends, and listening to all sorts of music. His experience advanced in High School as he enjoyed playing in the jazz band, performing at different venues, and catching concerts. When he graduated from High School, Matt decided to pursue his devotion towards music and enrolled in The University of North ...
I have been playing drums for 16 years. It is my true passion. We can go over basics like breathing, technique, posture, holding the sticks, hitting the cymbals and drums, and tuning the drums. We can also get into rhythms, grooves, licks, tricks, fills, odd times, odd subdivisions, reading, learning solos, and more! I'm game for everything. We can set up an extra kit at your place or my place.
I was an engineering tutor at University of Texas at Austin from 2006-2009. I graduated from UT with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2009. I am very familiar with the UT engineering courses (from the beginning to the end). While I was at UT, I also studied jazz drumming with Brannen Temple. I have been playing professionally for over ten years with lots of different bands. Teaching and playing music are the most gratifying things for me. But I also like to teach math! I have been teaching high school math, physics, and music theory at Premier High School of North Austin for five years (2009-2014). I am a certified teacher by the state of Texas.
Playing music is awesome, and I love sharing the experience of performance with students. My greatest former teachers made always two things clear - 1) it is important to strive to be better than than you were yesterday, and 2) playing music should be fun!
Whether big or small, it is important to me that each student see measurable progress with every lesson. All lessons are tailored to the specific needs and learning style of each individual student.
I began my musical training at age 8, began playing professionally as a teenager, and have been teaching for 15 years. I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Music Education, with a minor in Percussion Performance. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to perform several nights a week around Austin, and to have toured the US multiple times during the past two years. In addition to teaching and performing, I have also written many works for concert band, jazz ensemble, and percussion ensemble. I began teaching private lessons and ensemble rehearsals in 1999, having since taught everything from elementary music and concert band to marching band and college-level drum corps. It's all about sharing the positive experience of performance and ...
I've been a professional touring musician for over 5 years. I play in a number of bands and record as a session musician. I've been teaching music lessons for 4 years.
I can help teach students drum rudiments, a variety of musical genres including rock, funk, blues, hip hop, and top 40s, and good composition skills. Students can jam live with a bass player which is essential to developing rhythm section skills.
Academia: I was valedictorian of my high school, and went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa with a BS in both Neuroscience and Environmental Science from the University of Wisconsin in 2011. I then started tutoring most major subjects, with a focus on ACT and SAT standardized test prep. I mentored "at-risk" high school students in a variety of courses during an after school program. As a tutor, I focus on helping students to truly understand the material, rather than simply memorize it. If a student doesn't get it the first time, I will always work to explain it in different ways until they understand. Music: I've been running bands for over 10 years, and nationally touring myself for the past 5 as either a bassist or drummer. My music has been played on hundreds of radio stations across ...

"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
