Originally from Maryland, Calen J. is a Douglasville, Georgia resident with a burning passion for music. His involvement with the performing arts dates back to 1994 where he took up the alto saxophone as his primary instrument, and 1996 when piano became his secondary; since then he has dealt heavily with band performance, where most of his expertise lies.

I'm a professional guitarist with a background in jazz, heavy metal, blues, classical, and bossa nova. In 2006 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music and since then I have become lead guitarist and keyboardist for an Atlanta based rock band. In May of 2009, after a year of being together, the band released its debut album, In Prison Till the End, to great critical acclaim.

Buzz is an independent producer, writer, arranger, & keyboardist with over 30 years in the music industry. He appears on more than 150 CDs (2 received platinum certification) as performer or producer.

During the 80s, Buzz toured the world with the legendary Curtis Mayfield as musical director and during that time became staff producer for Ichiban Records. In the 90s, Buzz focused on production & arranging, working with some of music’s finest such as Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, & Ben E King to name a few.

In 2000, Buzz created Amatones Music. He has composed music for CNN, Delta Airlines, The Discovery Channel, the Weather Channel as well as for film and TV. His orchestration skills provided him the opportunity to score 2 songs for jazz pianist Bob Thompson and the West VA Symphony Orchestra.

Sept of 05 Buzz released his debut CD “A Collection” on Blue Canoe Records. Music from that release can be found in both film and TV .

I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music.

My main musical area of interest is traditional and/or contemporary gospel. I have also developed a strong interest in the contemporary Christian genre. I am well versed in hymns and various forms of sacred music. In addition, I have performed rhythm and blues, pop, and beginning to intermediate classical.

With 20 years of teaching experience, I am a 1978 graduate of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, where I studied voice and piano. At present, I am the Minister of Music at an Atlanta area church. I am also a songwriter and producer who released a gospel/inspirational solo CD entitled ‘Ministry’ in 2007.
