About Me

In my teaching practice, I've taught kids as young as 5, on up through adults. Part of my teaching philosophy is that the student needs to have fun regardless of what the topic is, so I have a very light-hearted approach. My teaching also has to be flexible because every one of my students has different strengths, and I structure my approach according to those strengths.

I'm new to this website, so I don't have many reviews at the moment through this website. But, rest assured, I have many good reviews on other parts of the web. Come back soon, as I hope to update this page soon.

If you have any questions, please contact me. I look forward to working with you!

Dave L.

PS For those that are interested, here's my performance background:

I have been playing guitar for over 28 years, and teaching for about 15 of those years.

Here's a little bit about my playing background. I started playing guitar while in college, and studied classical guitar with Mr. William Andersen for 2 years while attending the State University of NY at Albany. I also took advanced theory, composition, and musicianship classes while attending SUNY Albany. Near the end of my college days, the jazz bug hit, and I started by studying with Albany's local jazz guitar guru, Sam Farkas for 3 years. I continued my jazz guitar studies with Professor Peter Rogine of Five Towns College in NY, for another 3 years. Recently, I've completed a master certificate in arranging with the Berklee School of Music's online extension school. In between all of my studies, I play rock, pop and blues styles as well.

Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Songwriting

About Me

I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a lesson plan that I follow for beginning students to get them through the basics. As a teacher I am laid back, and positive, but always try to give the student a clear reflection of how they are progressing. I find that some students thrive with a lot of structure and others prefer a looser approach and I am quite comfortable teaching both ways. If the student maintains a consistent practice regimen, they should be able to play songs from the radio within 3 or 4 months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the living room with an amp, keyboard, computer, desk, parents can sit on couch in a separate room

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my student to provide their instrument (including amp if necessary) and any instructional materials required.

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.I have had a lot of experience teaching beginning and intermediate students with method books, and have used them to teach reading, theory, technique, and repertoire. Most often, I take a slightly looser approach which I feel allows me to mold my teaching to fit the individual student's needs

About Me

With over 30 years experience as a professional guitar instructor, I have been actively teaching lessons in Henry County, GA as well as Clayton County, GA. I started teaching guitar professional in 1983. Over the years I've had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students at every skill level, and what a joy that has been for me.

I teach several styles of playing: Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Funk, Rhythm & Lead guitar playing, Classical guitar and Fingerstyle playing. I teach on electric & acoustic guitar.

I have one basic philosophy in my approach to teaching: get the student to fall in love with the guitar so it becomes a life-long passion. As an instructor, I endeavor to make guitar lessons fun, practical and productive!!! Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, advanced or even at the professional level, I can help you advance your playing skills.
