Hi! I am excited to work with students of all ages and levels, and I am here to help you unlock the treasury of our music together. I'm devoted to passing on the joy of music-making to performers of any age, whether you are passionate about musical theater, classical music, popular music, or just for the fun of making music.
As a soloist, I am a frequent performer throughout the Northeast. Encouraging and Patient!

Ian is the most encouraging teacher I've hardly met. He is always ready to point out the improvements and in a sincere way. Even though I tend to repeat the mistake, he takes it as a natural learning process and gives time for myself to overcome it.

Besides, it usually takes me more effort to understand the terms/background of the pieces we work on since English is not my native language but Ian is able to translate into something I could understand.

Not only is Jimi a gifted musician, but he is a passionate teacher. It is evident how much he enjoys teaching through his exuberance and encouragement. We feel very fortunate to have found him. Our daughter is making huge strides in learning the saxophone, thanks to his positive reinforcement and love of the instrument.

A great experience with a skilled instructor

Above all else, Jimi knows what he's doing. His advice is exactly what I needed to improve me use of my voice. His knowledge of the human voice and various instructional methods is both broad and deep, and he draws on it effectively to give effective personalized advice.

Jimi is an endless wellspring of information and advice, and sometimes I want to do more singing and less listening. But when I do get to sing, I always find that the listening has paid off -- I'm improving fast, and it's because of his good teaching.

Vasiliy M. Somerville, MA

About Vasiliy

Hello,
I am Vasiliy M, Boston University School of Music Alumnus (DMA in Composition). We dwell in Boston since Fall 2002; before that time , we lived in New York, where I studied Composition at Mannes College, The New School For Music. I received both BM, and MM degrees from Mannes in 1999, and 2001, respectively. Before an arrival to US, in 1994, I studied Jazz Performance, Electric Bass Major, and Classical Composition, at Moldova State Conservatory, from 1988 to 1993, respectively.
I was raised in the family, where music is an essential part of its daily life; my father, Grigoriy, before his retirement, was a military band trombone player, and, quite naturally, I was exposed to music, and encouraged by my parents to learn playing an instrument of my choice, from my ...

Wonderful teacher

I'm so happy to have Vasily as my son's piano teacher. He's very kind and knowledgeable. One quick and important thing I notice about this teacher, He always pays attention to all the details and make sure that the student fully understands the concepts. He's very patient and will not rush through things just because time is up.. Special thanks to Musiclessons for giving the opportunity to meet this excellent teacher...

Katie O. Somerville, MA

About Katie

Hi! I am a conservatory graduate with degrees in Vocal Performance (BM, Oberlin Conservatory, MM, Boston Conservatory.) I have studied vocal pedagogy at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and have experience teaching and coaching students of all ages. As a pianist, I work in the Boston area as an accompanist, keyboardist, and music director, mainly in musical theater, so I am familiar with coaching singers in that style as well.

I believe that any singing style (classical, musical theater, jazz, pop, etc.) can benefit from a solid technical foundation based in breath, flexibility, and speech-to-singing connection. Although my singing background is in opera, my goal is to teach students to use good technique to free themselves to be comfortable and expressive in any style ...

Katie is a fantastic voice teacher. She is very knowledgeable about how singing works and has taught my daughter not just how to sing, but how to sing in a holistic, healthy way. After just a few lessons I could notice the improvement in my daughter's voice quality and projection. My daughter enjoys the lessons very much. We're very happy to have found Katie.
Anastasia S. Medford, MA

About Anastasia

After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first note she touched at her Weill Hall recital, Anastasia S. was a genuine pleasure to listen to. Every piece, every measure, every note - no matter how complex the texture, no matter how many strands of melody and accompaniment - was wrapped in a halo of golden tone..."

Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Anastasia S. gave her first solo recital at the age of eleven. Ms. S. is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, Germany, and holds a Master’s degree from The ...

So many teachers make you take lessons from scratch to see how much you have learned and go over the material again with you to fix errors. It is so boring for me!!! I hate that. I'm sure it works for some people. I like to play my hardest song and then go from there instead! He did no for met. He caught on right away, exactly where I needed help. I didn't waste hours and hours of tedious lessons that I would quit rather than have to do that same material again! Also, he breaks things down that are very complicated, to easy to understand chunks and bits to make it easy.
