I conduct my lessons with an emphasis on students musical interests while promoting the development of technical facility. Each lesson begins with a series of warm ups targeted to promote the students individual technical growth on his/her instrument. Then, we progress into song study. However, no lesson I teach is the same as every student as every student has unique wants and needs that change with every lesson. I like to create a fun environment that promotes the freedom and comfort for students to explore their instruments and grow. I have taught for many years and I have found that I am easy-going, understanding and always professional in lessons. I had so many wonderful kind teachers that sincerely inspired me when I first began my musical studies and that same passion, love of music and empathy is what I strive to bring to my own lessons.

I have been trained classically my entire life on voice and flute. However, Berklee college of Music really trained me to be a singer of all genres. I stress good technique and classical is a good tool, it does not allow for gaps in facility. Thus, when working with a student I I make sure that we focus both on classical technique and whatever genre they want to excel in, I show them how to connect the classical to the genre of their choice. I am a trained performer with vast experience and I have many tools that can help people with problems such as stage fright really embrace performing. For instance, I will right words connected with an emotion on flashcards and flash them and make singer act them out while performing a piece, it helps show that if you sing the meaning of the piece and try to share that, nerves tend to be easier to deal with. I have also trained in Los Angeles with the Aaron Speiser Acting Studio and am more than able to coach with monologues and scen study/help a performer really delve into the character of their piece.
My name is Cara, a college graduate of Grove City College with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. I've played flute for 15 years and piano for 10. I've been teaching for 3 years, and I absolutely love it. I love music and I love teaching anyone who is interested to learn about it! From the basics to the notes on the staff, to the circle of fifths and complicated theory, i would love to teach all aspects of music. I understand that everyone has different tastes in music, so i love doing all different styles. Classical, Pop, Broadway, Oldies, you name it. If you're a beginner, or you've been playing for a few years, we can find where you are and get you started right away! I hope you will give me a chance :)

I am currently a junior flute performance student at Duquesne University, and I study with Damian Bursill-Hall of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. I am a former student of Rhian Kenny's, also of the PSO. I currently do a lot of freelance playing with my chamber group, the Duquesne Woodwind Trio, and by myself. I am an alumni of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Duquesne Symphony Orchestra, Duquesne Wind Symphony, and multiple chamber ensembles. I have attended the Le Domaine Forget International Music Academy in Montreal, Orford Arts Center in Orford, QC, Advanced Chamber Music Seminar, West Virginia University Flute Festival, the Youngstown University Flute Festival, and will be attending the Consummate Flutist at Carnegie Mellon University in a few weeks with Jeanne Baxtresser and Jim Walker. I have studied in masterclass with flutists including Emmanuel Pahud, Robert Langevin, Mathieu Dufour, Denis Bluteau, Lorna Mcghee, and many others. I have received 1st place in Butler Symphony Orchestra's 2013 Young Artist Concerto Competition, a recent winner in the Tuesday Musical Society Scholarship Competition, second place in Duquesne University's annual Wind Concerto Competition, and 2nd place in the Women's Advisory Board Scholarship Competition. I have always been a leader, and with a kind, very encouraging approach to teaching, I am able to teach my students how to become the best player that they can be. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with other flutists.

"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
