David H. Malden, MA

Specializing in Rock, Jazz, Blues, and many other styles. All levels welcome, whether you're a complete beginner or you're an experienced player feeling like you've taught yourself all that you can and you want to learn some jazz theory, arpeggios, scales, more complex stuff, etc.

About David

I am a 28 year old Massachusetts native and have been playing music since I was 8 years old, starting on the piano with a wonderful teacher in Beverly who also went to Berklee. I picked up the guitar and the bass in high school and got into rock, jazz and blues and haven't looked back. I received a bachelors degree from Berklee in 2012 with a major in Professional Music and minor in Music Education.

I currently perform in and around Boston with several bands and also do custom guitar finishes, set-ups and modifications.

Music study is great exercise for your brain. It works both the left and right hemispheres of the brain simultaneously because you are thinking both creatively and logically/mathematically at the same time.

I am happy teaching students at any level, ...

Dave is the man!!! He is an excellent teacher and curtails the lessons to what you want to learn and not just out of some book. He is also great at explaining the functions of the scales or chords you are learning as well as picking great songs in order to showcase those elements. If you are looking for a great guitar instructor, look no further, Dave is your guy! And his cat is pretty cool too...

Luckily I live very close to David's so it took me under 10 minutes to get to my lessons and he has parking. During each lesson I learned something different and left with cool new music (he has quality taste) or strumming techniques to practice at home. I liked his cat who had a hankering for affection and when David plays (He's terrific and a delight to listen to )

Dave is a wonderful teacher and musician! He does a great job of teaching you the music you want to play in combination with skills you need in order to improve. If you don't understand something, he'll explain it in different ways until you do. He's really nice and professional and has a great in home studio. I would highly recommend him!

teaching for over 4 + years and playing for 30 + years. My goal is have a student gain enough knowledge to be dangerous and perhaps more :) Not only in playing but in reading music and performance, song writing etc.

About Barry

I have 3 + years of professional teaching experience....I have all the degrees, none of which are in Music, but my whole family is musically orientated. 1/2 my immediate family had a wedding band for years when I was a youngster. My father still to this day fixes instruments in his retirement and plays out still as well. My father was actually the one who said don't go to school for music its a tough world out there for folks with music degrees, but I wish I had gone against his advice on that one. I love teaching and would have liked to have done it in a school system. I have in the past been a substitute teacher for some of the local schools in there music departments. I have a great deal of knowledge and teach to have fun, but understanding there is time for that fun mode, when all ...

My three granddaughters and I are taking lessons with Ben. I asked each of the girls to give me three words about Ben and we all agreed. He is patient, fun and funny and, they added, "I really like him and he knows a lot about teaching and playing the piano." I was a teacher and professor for many years, and I know good teaching when I see it. Ben is a very good teacher. Not only is he patient and at ease with his students, he seems always to be aware of each of them and able to respond to their needs. I'm impressed and feel fortunate to have found someone who is also responsible and reliable, and takes his work seriously. It is a great pleasure to work with Ben and we all look forward to our weekly lesson.

Top notch teacher

My son has been taking lessons from Ben now for a little over a month. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and reliability of Ben. I figured it would take a lot to keep a 16 year old boy who is a beginner totally interested in piano but Ben has managed to do just that. My son actually looks forward to his weekly lessons and practices without hesitation and I can only attribute that to the teaching techniques of Ben. If anyone is contemplating on choosing Ben for their or their child's instructor, hesitate no further. He is one of the best.
