SUSAN JEROME BIO
 
Susan has been a children's and adult theater and music teacher in the Bay Area for the past 20 years. She has had extensive training in singing, acting, improvisation, music, dance, directing and writing.  She has a BA in Theater Arts and attended "The American Academy of Dramatic Arts" in New York. Susan has been a leading show-singer, dancer, actress in New York, Minnesota and San Francisco and the Peninsula. She is also a professional  voice-over commercial artist and has been in many commercials and documentaries nationally. She is a member of SAG and AFTRA talent unions and has won many  awards for her talents. She has produced and directed several children's stage productions throughout her prestigious career.

I have been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, composed and arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since settling in the Bay in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions.

I received my Bachelor of Music Education with Honors from New Mexico State University in 2008....

I've been teaching guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and songwriting for 20 years, both privately, in music stores, and through various schools and adult education. I also perform and record as a singer/songwriter, am working on my 5th CD, and lead music in churches.

I can teach all styles of music, but specialize in acoustic style folk, bluegrass, Irish, and contemporary Christian. Whether you're a first time beginner, more advanced, 8 years old or 80, I'd love to help you out.

I have a very personalized approach to teaching, developing the curriculum tailored to your own musical tastes, abilities, and amount you want to put into it.

Hristo is a modern jazz guitarist/composer from Sofia, Bulgaria. Residing in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1998, Hristo has performed with some of the premier musicians in the region and has toured nationally and internationally with a wide variety of formations. He has performed guitar clinics all over Japan and Europe and has published a book on chordal development and construction entitled “Between the Voicings.” He has also published different articles on jazz improvisation. He leads the “Hristo Quartet;” an impressionistic jazz ensemble which showcases Hristo’s completely unique voice as a composer, featuring Brazilian pianist Weber Iago, drummer extraordinaire Joe De Rose, and one of the most original bassist in Northern California - Dan Robbins. My name is Chris. I am currently a Jazz Studies major at San Jose State University. I began my musical journey at Dartmouth Middle School. I played saxophone, and was only mildly interested in music. I stayed in music in high school, but remained only mildly interested until my Sophomore year. I discovered the trumpet and began to listen to Louis Armstrong, and became obsessed with jazz and mastering the trumpet. In just 2 short years, I had studied enough trumpet to travel South America with the San Jose Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra. This was an amazing experience that showed me how important music is (especially to people who don't have iPods and computers). After my South American tour, I decided to teach privately and share my talents with the world. I won a scholarship to San Jose State for music excellence in 2009, and joined the Spartan Marching Band. While in this prestigious organization I performed in Olympic Stadiums, Disneyland, and all over San Jose....

My mother tells me I was reading music before I was reading words. One of my earliest memories is singing with my church children's choir; I must have been about four. I began piano lessons when I was six and in fourth grade took up the clarinet. In sixth grade I really wanted to sit next to my best friend in band class, who happened to play the oboe. So I made the switch and it stuck!

Most parents want their kids to grow up to be doctors. Mine saw my passion for music and so encouraged me to go to music school. I rebelled, naturally, thinking I would get my degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (with a double-major in Music to appease my folks). After it became painfully clear to me that music was really my strong point, I decided to pursue it as a career. I received my Bachelor's degree in oboe performance at the University of California, Santa Cruz and continued on to receive a Master's in choral and orchestral conducting.

I am a fabulous teacher. Really! As a member of NATS (National Organization of Teachers of Singing), I hold my teaching skills to a high standard. I started playing guitar at age 9, and recorded 2 singles in the LA area by age 14. I was a music major throughout High School and College. I also learned a lot by educating myself at the Brand Library in the Los Angeles Area, which specializes in the arts. I specialized in advanced music theory and and improvisational techniques.

I have played on tour with several professional bands, playing rock, pop, blues & country. I now perform live in various bands and record original music as often as possible.

I have enjoyed teaching music lessons since 1978.
