My passion and love for music began the day I learned to speak. I've studied the piano since age 6, as well as voice. From 2004-2010 I studied voice professionally with Jean Bradel (former Metropolitan Opera Singer) and Wagner College's qualified vocal coaches. In Middle School I began to teach myself how to play the oboe, flute and clarinet. I joined the High School Marching Band in 8th grade and became section leader of the clarinets in 9th grade (the youngest of the group). I was a member of my High School's Show Choir, Concert Choir, Orchestra and Concert Band.

I graduated from Wagner College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Arts Administration with a concentration in Theatre. I am currently seeking a Master's Degree in Special Education.

I graduated with a B.A. in Professional Music from Boston's Berklee College of Music. When I first heard about Berklee, I too thought of warm and sunny Berkeley California and not the frigid winters in Boston. Berklee however, is respected world-wide as the musicians music college. Each year, only 3% of students are able to graduate. Advanced freshman placement accelerated all Berklee core requirements by my sophomore year. An early focus on their Advanced Harmony/Theory and Ear Training electives provided the rare opportunity of experiencing Berklee's highest level courses in both departments. I graduated with Honors in 7 semesters with a cumulative music GPA of 3.6. (Magna Cum Laude). In 2007 I started teaching voice, guitar and songwriting in Southern California and performing original music with my band. In 2010 I co-founded the Creative Arts Initiative, a literacy-based program for teenage girls in Sierra Leone, West Africa that encourages self-expression and empowerment through creative writing and the arts. I am 35 years old, and have been a musician for over 25 years. I began, like many, playing in my middle school band. I attended a Performing Arts School throughout my high school years, where I studied Classical and Jazz Guitar, Music Theory, Ear Training, and many other facets of music. I also studied privately with various guitar instructors, most notable Kyle Hildenbrand, a Berklee grad and film scorer for Universal Studios. In college I also took education and psychology classes which have proven very helpful in my approach to teaching.

I'm a classically trained pianist. I graduated from West Chester University with my Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance in 1985. I then went on to Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where I earned my Masters degree in Piano Performance in 1987. Beginning in 1987 I taught at the Settlement Music Schools in Philadelphia. I remained there for 16 years working with virtually every level of student from beginner to advanced. From 2004 to the present I have been teaching in my own home studio in West Chester, Pa.

I began violin playing jazz/folk music with my dad and performing at different venues with him. I was always attracted to the variety of scales and sounds eastern music had to offer. I love the sound of a gypsy violin, how it can create such a strong sorrowful sound or how it can dance and sing.

I found the gypsy inspired pieces composed by classical composers like Monti's Csaras. This was my connection into classical music. I found a teacher who played classical and arabic violin and began studying intensely for technique. As I got deeper into the study of classical I realized how much I love classical music.

I have been playing the violin since I was eight years old, and singing since I was nine. Beginning only as a hobby, I quickly became bored with my steady diet of classical music. Finally, I found the right teacher, and began learning alternative styles. She directed me to the Mark O'Connor Fiddle Camps, where I studied with top violinists from every genre, including folk, jazz, rock, and many more. By the time I reached high school, I couldn't imagine what else I would do with my life. My name is Melissa and I am currently a senior at the University of Delaware. I am pursuing a major in music education with a concentration in violin. I have been playing the violin for 17 years and also have been giving private violin lessons for the last 8 years. The many years that I have played the violin along with my 8 years of private teaching has given me knowledge of effective ways to teach students how to play the violin. At the age of 4 I began producing musicals in my basement with my sister. This progressed to acting classes, piano lessons, and eventually the school musical in sixth grade. I began taking voice lessons when I was in eighth grade and have never looked back. Through high school, I focused on both classical and musical theatre genres, having leads in high school and community musicals and operettas. I've been apart of almost every genre associated with the vocal arts, it's my passion! After graduating from Liberty University, I began my musical endeavors in New York City. My experiences include singing for artists at The Metropoliton Opera Guild, various operas scenes at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space as well as winning first place at a 5 state regional competition when I was 21. These experiences not only brought me joy and musical knowledge, but they also brought me knowledge of the environment and lifestyle, which is invaluable and would be my pleasure to share with my students.
