Acting, Piano, Singing, Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Percussion, Songwriting, Speaking Voice
Hello all! I am Emily F., a recent graduate of Grove City College with a degree in Music Education. While in school I majored in Percussion and Voice and spent the majority of my time performing and gaining experience. I am currently an elementary music teacher with Prince George's County Schools. I have had years of lessons myself and have taught many students as well. As a vocalist, I can teach you how to sing anything from Top 40 hits to Broadway numbers to Operatic Arias. I will help you gain confidence as a performer and vocal strength. I am also prepared to teach beginning piano lessons to help you learn to accompany yourself and others. For percussion lessons, I have years of experience as a principal percussionist in my College's band and orchestra and would love to help you learn how to be a classically trained percussionist, not a drummer. Overall, I offer experience, knowledge, and a chance to get out of your shell and onto a stage.

As a voice teacher and voice coach I strive to help the student get to where they want to be vocally. For me singing is something that brings me joy and I hope to be able to share that with you.
It took me a while to realize how much music and singing means to me. While studying something entirely different at the University of Maryland, I began studying voice and realized that it was something that I had a gift for. I fell in love with singing art songs, jazz and opera arias. And while studying at the University of Maryland, I had the opportunity to work as a voice teacher/ section leader with the women's section of a choir, numerous opportunities to work as a soloist and in a few jazz clubs. I was also involved in dance performances and acted as a dance tutor.
Later, when I was invited to sing in Denver I had the opportunity to sing in Little Shop of Horrors and to sing with a women's choir. While studying at the University of Colorado Boulder I began to come into my own and started to let my large sound free. (Which for me was a process. Getting your voice where you want it and to where it is capable is work. But, it is fun work and you're always happy when you have these great moments where you get to where you were hoping you could and that your teacher said you would go at some point.) It was there, at CU Boulder that I got the opportunity to start singing in operas. While in Boulder I sang in The Magic Flute, Sarah McKinnon and as a soloist or recitalist.
Also, while there I worked as an actress in a theater company called the Interactive Theater Project for three years. I thought that by getting involved in that that I would be able to act more effectively while singing. It was fun just doing something where you're just working with the spoken word. I had a wonderful time with them and learned a lot about character work and what it takes to connect to the words in an effective way.
In the past few years, I have been a soloist and recitalist in the Washington,DC area and has sang opera in Pennsylvania with Center Stage Opera. Last year, I sang with Center Stage Opera in the role of Bertha. I had the opportunity to sing and to act at the Kennedy Center a few years ago. Also during that time, I
sang in Aleko, the Die Zauberflöte as the Queen of the Night, Serena in Porgy and Bess, and
sang in Ragtime and sang the role of the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast.
I am currently working as a soloist and a chorus member and preparing for a recital and auditions in January. I look forward to what things the new year and the rest of the year will bring.

My name is Aleksis B., but many of my students know me as Mr. B. I am a professional instructor and performing musician who combines a love of music with a desire to help others who want to achieve their highest musical potential. I try to make that passion show in everything I do.
My education includes classical voice training with Michele Howard Hansen, an opera singer that often performs at the Kennedy Center. I studied piano with Geoffrey Chappell, who writes for Jazz Times. I also received compositional training on multiple instruments from Stanley Cowell, who recorded and performed with legends like Miles Davis.
I have been performing professionally since 1992. I studied education in college and did my student teaching in a music class at Goshen Elementary School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
I have been teaching music professionally now for over twenty years. Some students want to take a few lessons to see if it is something they will enjoy, others have worked with me for over a decade. I have mentored several students who have gone on to professional careers. I have experienced a lot of success teaching young children and those with special needs. I have been blessed with a tremendous amount of patience and truly enjoy teaching anyone who wants to learn.
Whatever your goals or abilities, I look forward to working with you!

With almost 20 years of music and theater related experience, and over 10 years as a vocal coach, I start each day fresh with a desire to pass on my passion for the arts.
I have acquired my Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice Performance from Mason Gross School of the Arts in 1997, and am currently working towards my Master of Secondary Education Degree. Along with my traditional schooling, I have taken several Master Classes in Acting Technique and Voice-over.
As a versatile individual, I have had the opportunity to hold a number of professional roles including Drama Teacher, Modeling and Television Instructor, and Private Vocal Coach. I have directed, choreographed, musical directed, and coached many individuals and groups within multiple organizations and age levels. Through these experiences, I have been fortunate enough to educate a diverse group of students, who functioned below-, on-, and above grade level.
My lifelong desire is to be able to share my love of music and theater. God has blessed me with both a love for music and the arts and a desire to teach others about the incredible gift that we have been given. My goal is to instill a sense of music appreciation and performing arts integration, while at the same time teaching students about the technical aspects of music and theater. Through music we are able to express ourselves and our compassion for others.
As a performing artist, I have toured many areas of NJ, DE, and PA, and have now expanded into VA. I have also toured Europe in England, Holland, and Germany with a production of Godspell. My credits are many and each role is unique. I have directed, music directed, and choreographed various productions, and my experience expands from the stage to film; including a performance in a chorus of back-up singers with Rosemary Clooney and Debbie Boone at the Valley Forge Music Fair. Currently, I am the lead singer for my band "End of Silence", and will be touring this coming year. We are looking to record soon.
I continue to perform and study current trends to keep up with the popular demands of the youth. Staying in the performing world is essential to providing the most up to date information and trends to my students.
I look forward to each and every lesson, and love to see my students shine. It is amazing to see the spark in a students eye as he or she follows his or her dreams. I look forward to teach your son, daughter, or yourself and passing on my passion to fulfill those dreams.
