"Both my sons are having a lot of fun taking lessons. They really like Gabriel and feel quite..."Gabriel has been drumming professionally for nearly a decade, and teaching for four years. In 2007 Gabriel recieved his BA in Jazz Studies/percussion performance from Columbia college Chicago, where he studied Drumset with Chicago legend Tom Hipskind, conga virtuoso's Rubin Alverez, and Giovanni Hildalgo, and studio vibraphonist Rick Embach. Gabriel has a high success rate with his students including the winner of the "Heat Strokes" drum competition 2007, Joey Handley. Gabriel's method of teaching is relaxed, yet enthusiastic he strives for making even the most complex musical ideas as simple as possible, and overall making learning fun.
For my beginner drum students I first start them out with basic coordination excercises in learning rock rhythms, simple fills, and primary rudiments. In about 3-6 months my students will be able to play along with their favorite albumns. As students advance I get into differant styles of music including Jazz, funk, and latin. I incorperate basic rhythm reading and working out of books into a segment of my lessons, the books very depending on the musical interests of the student. I know that all people learn at differant paces so I am patient and take as long as necessary to master the material. Overall I believe in making my lessons challenging, interesting, and fun.
I specialize in Jazz, Pop, Rock, and Classical. I believe in teaching by ear at first and then incorporating music theory and notation into my lessons.
