"He left me with a ton of tricks to work on and guided me in the right direction! Awesome..."Mike is a passionate and dedicated guitarist of 13 years and a private teacher for 12. As a recent graduate of Full Sail University, he holds an Associate's Degree in Recording Arts. Originally from the Northeast, Michael has played in many venues throughout New York City, including headlining shows at CBGB's in 1999 with his band Breakway. He has also performed with the group on 2001's Vans Warped Tour, among such acts as Fenix, TX and Sum 41.
He is currently teaching in the Orange County Elementary School System while pursuing his career as an active guitairst, songwriter and engineer in the Orlando area.
As a longtime teacher, I have learned that every student wants to start for a different reason. Whether it is their favorite song, a guitar hero, or any great inspiration. I have started at the exact same spot so I understand. My lessons are a one on one, relaxed experience of learning the student’s musical tastes and aspirations for their playing. I start by teaching the basic principles required for any style, and then move down the specific path towards the student’s goals.
I will show you:
- How to handle and understand the guitar
- Basic fingering and chords
- How to switch between those chords smoothly
- How to listen
- Listening is the most valuable tool of any musician.
Once we cover the basics, we will apply them to the songs you love. Want to learn Green Day riffs? Let’s do it. Interested in finger-style acoustic guitar? Sounds great. We go where you want and I’ll show you the way. We’ll listen to your favorite songs, watch videos and study the music.
In addition to learning just how to play, I will teach you overlooked techniques such as:
- Improvisation
- Learning how to properly control your volume and picking dynamics
- Tuning your guitar
- Reading tablature
- Selecting the best string gauge for your hands and style
- Understanding guitar effects and how to use them
- Picking out and emulating guitar tones
- Identifying pickup settings on recordings
Though all students are different, it’s average that within 3 months you will have a solid understanding of basic chords and changes and the ability to play many songs.
I will show you exactly what you need to learn in order to play what you want, practice and maintain your skills, and encourage you to become the player you wish to be.
