About Me

I am an instructor who is passionate about music and who loves to communicate that and pass that on through teaching.  I've had formal training in the piano since the age of four.  I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music at UC Berkeley, as well as a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.  In 2005, I was awarded the Alfred Hertz Traveling Scholarship and studied in Italy.  I've also received many music scholarship awards, including the Joan Reutinger Award and the Eisner Award in Music at UC Berkeley.

I've taught students of all ages, and I've also taught training workshops for ensemble playing.

Lesson Details

My vision as a teacher is to guide students in a life-long love and appreciation for music; to train them to proficiency at the piano through a strong foundation in technique, tone production, and musicality; and to build in them a solid understanding and competency in music theory, aural skills, sightreading, and practice disciplines.

Lessons begin with technical exercises, but the majority of the time is spent on pieces the student is working on.  I'm a teacher who is excited about classical music; while I'm patient and easy-going, I also believe in discipline and good practice habits.

Specialties

I specialize in classical music.

I am also able to teach pop (playing by chords), and I have also taught students to play hymns and contemporary worship music.
