Alyssa P. TakeLessons Instructor Voice, Beginning Piano Salt Lake City, UT

Alyssa is an accomplished vocalist/instructor with over 15 years of performance experience. Her primary focus is to teach fundamentals which will allow students the flexibility to sing in various styles in a healthy manner. She is committed to finding the individual strengths of each student and providing an encouraging and enthusiastic learning environment. In addition to teaching technical skills she also teaches performance abilities. This is especially helpful to those working towards auditions. Alyssa is passionate about music, and is well qualified to teach beginning through advanced students. Alyssa's main focuses are Classical and Broadway, which provide a good basis for all styles.

Alyssa began studying voice at the age of 11 in Northern California. She has studied with various instructors including Thelma Dare Ahner and Robert Hinkson. In Northern CA she received several vocal awards, completed the CMTA Certificate of Merit program, and was a soloist with the Santa Rosa Symphony. She was the choir director for Strawberry Elementary school for 2 years, and she is a graduate of the San Francisco Girls Chorus program.

Alyssa has appeared in numerous community & professional theater productions. Some of her favorite roles have been Fiona in "Brigadoon," Maria in "West Side Story,"  Hodel in "Fiddler on the Roof," and Connnie Miller in "1930's Radio Hour." 

Alyssa attended BYU and received a B.A. in Voice in 2002. Alyssa is currently a member of the Utah Symphony Chorus.

Lessons with Alyssa require dedication to improvement and a willingness to learn. Alyssa firmly believes that the best learning environment is a positive one. During a lesson, a student can expect a various array of warm-ups, tailored specifically to target each student's "areas for improvement." Repertoire selection is a collaborative effort and students are encouraged to bring peices they wish to work on. However, they will also be expected to work on songs chosen by Alyssa.

After 3-6 months students should experience a significant increase in breath support/control an increased range and an increased ability to create a free, open sound. Students will also gain control of placement in order to adapt to different styles.

Each lesson is recorded digitally. Students will receive audio copies of each lesson, as well as a CD of warm up exercises designed specifically for each student.
