Jorge teaches percussion and
voice at all levels as well as
woodwinds, guitar and music theory.
Originally from Whittier,
California (Los Angeles County), Jorge played in school bands
starting at the age of 15. After high school he moved north to
Turlock in Stanislaus County where he attended California State
University Stanislaus and earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in
Choral & Instrumental Music Education. Before coming to
Sacramento, Jorge was a music teacher in the Woodland Joint
UnifiedSchool District where he taught concert band, jazz band, choir,
and guitar in grades 7 through 12.Jorge has also music directed the spring
musicals at Woodland High School in 2006 ("Anything Goes"),
2007 (The Music Man) and 2008 (Crazy For You).
Jorge's primary instruments are percussion and voice. He has
played percussion for numerous stage musicals in the
Turlock/Modesto area. Shows include, "Oh, Mr. Sousa!", "Honk",
"Anything Goes", "Les Miserables", "The Music Man", "Peter Pan",
"You're A Good Man Charlie Brown", and "The Wizard of Oz."
Jorge has also played with the Merced, Modesto and Stockton
Symphony Orchestras. In the 2004-2005 concert season Jorge
was a member of the Modesto Symphony Chorus and sang
bass/baritone. Currently, Jorge plays percussion with the
Sacramento Symphonic Winds and sings Baritone with Schola
Cantorum Choir of Sacred Heart Church in Sacramento. With
Schola Cantorum, Jorge traveled to Europe in June 07 as part
of a concert tour of Italy. Jorge sang at various cathedrals in
Italy including The Duomo Cathedral in Milan, the cathedrals
of Como and Lucca, as well as St. Peter's Basillica in The
Vatican City.
Since Jorge enjoys music so much, every summer he teaches
percussion and jazz band at the "Summer Music At Stanislaus"
music camp at CSU Stanislaus for students in grades 5 through
12.
All students will need to provide their own instrument and supplies (i.e. cork grease, reeds, strings, mallets etc.) Jorge will provide some music and books. Students will need to purchase recommended books and/or music specific to their instrument. Each week students will be given an assignment that is to be practiced and learned by the following lesson. Regular components of the lesson will be: 1.) Proper warm-ups & excercises, 2.) Duet playing (with instructor), 3.) Solo work, and 4.) sight-reading development. If the student is dedicated to the lessons, he/she should see a significant improvement within 2 to 3 months time.
I specialize in concert percussion (some drum set), voice, classical guitar, music theory and woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone).
