Ever since my first experience in a string quartet, I have continuously sought the great emotional breadth of the human condition for new experiences and messages in solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire. I have had the opportunity to work with students aged 3 - 17 during my six years of teaching and have absolutely loved the opportunity to develop the artistic intuition and creativity with my students. With my Suzuki experience, I have had the opportunity to begin young children and to nurture the growth of beginning students, while my activities as a concerto soloist, recitalist, quartet violinist and violist, and principal violist in several symphonic and chamber orchestras have given me the experience needed to train intermediate and advanced students, preparing some for college and conservatory auditions.
I received my Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance and Literature from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music and will be attending the Eastman School of Music in the Autumn. Following my education, I am seeking a career as the violist of a professional string quartet, a professor of viola and chamber music at a college or conservatory, and the artistic director of a community performing arts education program. I have absolutely loved teaching my students of these past several years and look forward to the opportunity to work with students in the Rochester area.
I work with my students to find a practice routine that compliments their school and work schedule. My typical practice formula is (#min./lesson = #min./daily practice). I train beginners using the Suzuki Method and philosophy, but dependent on the wants and needs of the parent and student, will gradually move into a individualized method adapted to the student's strengths and weaknesses.
My teaching philosophy involves structuring lessons to build skills in the appropriate order. The first and foremost skill necessary for musical performance is good tone. Following the establishment of good tone production, I focus on building rhythm and intonation. Following firm establishment of these skills, I will focus on dynamic range, bow technique, vibrato, tone color, and other techniques.
