About Me

Judith has been on the faculty in the music department at Columbia College in Chicago since 2007.  She has taught various levels of sightsinging and music theory, which are required courses for music majors.  Additionally, she taught "The Singer Prepares" for the High School Arts Institute at Columbia.  She also taught vocal music in public and private school settings throughout the state.  In addition to classroom instruction, she works with individual music students at all levels, specializing in voice, piano, and organ instruction.
Judith has had a wide variety of experiences as a professional performer in the Chicago area.  She has performed with the Chicago Opera Theatre, Circle Theatre, and sang the role of the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Dominican University's Opera Company.  In addition to solo work, she was a long-time member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus.  Judith received her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Northwestern University and her Bachelor of Music Education at Bradley University.
Judith also serves as Minister of Music at Austin Boulevard Christian Church in Oak Park, where there is a vibrant music program.  She is active in local Oak Park musical organizations, including the Oak Park Symphony Orchestra, where she serves on the Board of Directors, and MacDowell Artists, where she serves as a judge in their annual scholarship competition.

Lesson Details

After I have met with a new student, I will make a personal plan for musical instruction.  For piano, I use a variety of methods depending on what will work best for the student.

For voice, I use fun vocal exercises that help with breathing, placement, and flexibility.  For repertoire, I use a combination;  I find songs that will work well, and I take student suggestions into account.
