About Me

My name is Sergio. I'm 22, and i've been playing guitar since I was 12. When I was about 5 years young, my dad enrolled us both into a piano class. Evidently, the class introduced me to my musical ability at a very young age. My dad, who also grew up a musician, eventually became a professional singer for a while up until I was born. One of greatest memories of childhood I have is when my dad would pick the guitar up to play and sing for me and my little bro. I developed an ear and obsession for music at a very young age because of my father, and for that I thank him.

After High School I enrolled into the Musicians Institute. At the Musicians Institute I learned how to Read Music, Understand Theory, Read Charts, Ear Training, Scales, Modes, Chords and Inversions, song writing, producing, engineering, and last but not least, how to get along and network with other musicians and non-musicians.

Throughout my musical life, I've experienced some pretty amazing things. One of my greatest accomplishments was having the great pleasure of playing guitar on a Ringo Starr Track. And I've also had the amazing opportunity to work with grammy winning Song-Writer/Producer, Glen Ballard. I also work creatively with Engineer/Producer, Bill Malina who has mixed and engineered some great records for Ringo Starr, Anastacia, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry, and Glen Ballard to name a few.

I currently play in an awesome band called Takota. Earlier this year we traveled across the country to meet up with a popular pop band called Third Eye Blind to join the last leg of their tour. We're signed to a major label (Island Def Jam), and we're finishing up our debut album that will be available early '09.

Lesson Details

I like to base my teaching according to the students attitude, taste of music, and skill level. For the first few lessons I have the student memorize fundamental chords and exercises to begin writing and playing music. If the student is beyond the basics, I'll start by filling in any gaps in their playing and knowledge.

I've found that, recording the sessions with a simple tape recorder really helps progress the students ability. I'll have the student review the sessions during the week so that we don't have to backtrack too much in our next lesson. I have a selection of books with songs, chords, scales, and exercises that I will have the student learn. After a few months, the student will have the confidence and ability to perform and write songs for his friends and family.

The objective is to give the the student the ability to be able to start a band, purse a career in the music business, or simply play the guitar as a hobby, meditation, or past time.
