About Me

American baritone Keith is quickly gaining respect for his artistic sensibility on operatic, concert and recital stages.  Audiences who have heard this young baritone in performance are impressed by the range and warmth of his voice, impeccable diction, acting skills and the passion he brings to his stage roles.

The Wisconsin native has found much success in a wide range of vocal styles.  He recently enjoyed singing with Light Opera Oklahoma for their 2007 season, where he sang the roles of Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd and Pirate Bras Pique in Naughty Marietta.  Tulsa World said “Keith gives (Anthony) Hope stalwart air, thanks to a sturdy baritone” and The Lawton Constitution noted “The deep voiced Keith H. manages to out-Gaston Gaston in his turn as the evil Governor / Pirate Bras Pique.”

His 2006 season included his European debut in France with the Lyrique en Mer Festival, singing Ford in Falstaff.  He returned in 2007 for the productions of Les contes d’Hoffmann and La traviata.  He also participated in the festival gala concerts singing arias and duets from various operas.

Other recent operatic roles include: Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Silvio in Pagliacci, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Le Dancaïro and Moralés in Carmen, Sid in La fanciulla del West, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Athanaël in Thaïs.  He has appeared in productions with Seattle Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Holders Festival in Barbados, Nevada Opera, Opera of East Texas, El Paso Opera, Skagit Opera, Chelsea Opera and NOISE.

An active recitalist and concert soloist, Keith has performed throughout the United States.  During his 2006-2007 season he performed with pianist Thomas Bagwell (Metropolitan Opera) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York City.  In addition, he was soloist for the Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem at Lawrence University (WI), the Berliner Requiem by Kurt Weill with the Dessoff Choirs (NYC) and Handel’s Messiah with the Canterbury Choral Society (NYC).  He is a regular soloist with Dessoff Choirs and the Canterbury Choral Society.  Past concerts include Carmina Burana, Faure Requiem, Mozart Requiem and Elijah.

Keith has won numerous awards and competitions from many organizations including the Regional Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions held in Seattle, Opera Longview Vocal Competition in Texas (Longview named him “Young Artist of the Year”), Ellen Faull Gordon Northwest Vocal Competition and the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle (recital tour).

He is a graduate from the University of Washington in Seattle with a M.M. in Vocal Performance and received a B.M. in Vocal Performance at Lawrence University in Wisconsin.  He currently resides in New York City.

As a teacher Keith has been active helping people to sing better since he was in high school.  With over 25 years of choral and voice teaching experience he understands that all people have different learning styles and he knows how to reach each student.

Lesson Details

In our first lesson together we will develop a plan.  Why are you taking lessons?  What are your personal goals?  What time frame do you hope to achieve them in?

From there we will develop a lesson plan and pick music for you to sing according to your goals and musical tastes.  I have enjoyed teaching singers in classical music, Broadway, musical theater and pop music.  All music is good music as long as it's done well!

My teaching style is friendly.  All of my students improve but I also make sure they are enjoying the process.

I you want to have a lesson with me and do not see a time available that suites your needs please contact me anyway.  We will find a time to meet!

Specialties

I have a gift for connecting with students and helping them discover talents they did not know they had. This gives them extra confidence in a performance setting.
