Cameron draws upon a diverse background in both the arts and sciences to give his students unique, varied approaches to understanding music and trumpet technique. He earned a B.S in Mechanical Engineering and is currently working to complete his M.M. in Jazz Trumpet from Manhattan School of Music where he is studying on scholarship with Jon Faddis.
Cameron is proficient in many different styles of music and trumpet performance ranging from classical and jazz improvisation to commercial lead playing, as is evidenced by his recent performance resume. He is an alumnus of both the Disney All-American College Band and the Henry Mancini Institute. He carries numerous recording credits, including Hollywood film composer Patrick Williams’ latest CD, which was nominated for two Grammys in 2007. Cameron also toured the U.S. for two months last summer playing principal trumpet with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and most recently performed in Los Angeles at the 2008 Grammy Awards ceremony with the Foo Fighters.
Cameron has been teaching privately for eight years and was hired to supplement and coach the trumpet section in the big band for the Pre-College division at Manhattan School of Music for the 2007-2008 academic year. He is an enthusiastic teacher who strives to show students of all skill levels how music can add value to their lives.
What is it that draws the student to or excites the student about music and the trumpet? What do he or she want to learn? The answers to those questions are what motivate students and make the learning process fun, and I want to incorporate them into my students’ development.
Whether the student is just starting out, is an experienced player, or getting his or her chops back after years away from the horn, I will provide instruction tailored to meet each individual’s needs. I will do my best to create a comfortable environment in the lesson and encourage asking questions, because I want to make the most of the lesson time.
I have had experience and teach alll styles of trumpet playing from classical to jazz to commercial.
