"Shaun was very kind and cooperative with whatever you are desiring to learn. He really wants to..."Born and raised in the rich musical tradition of Detroit, Michigan, I first picked up a guitar at the age of 15. Rock music was my first interest, which has now developed into Blues, Funk, R&B, Country, and Acoustic styling. Studying under local guitarist Bryan Connolly for more than 3 years, I began to find my own touch and sound on the instrument. After playing around the Midwest with various bands including artist Trevor Noonan, I decided it was time to follow my passion and move out to Los Angeles to further my career and studies. While attending the Musicians' Institute in Hollywood, I studied from the likes of Bruce Buckingham, Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), and Stuart Ziff (War). The skills learned from these teachers will be passed down to students with my own spice on the material. During my time in Los Angeles, I has had the opportunity to play with many artists including sold out shows at the Troubadour and the Mayan. I've also been on numerous sessions, recording tracks for American Idol contestant Stevie Scott, and for movies such as Red and The Other End of The Line. These experiences will be shared with the student so the student will know how to prepare for such situations.
Lessons with me will be fun and encouraging. I am patient and laid-back with things, but know that I will push you to get over those humps. I've learned in my past 4 years of teaching how to create a curriculum specific to the student. This curriculum will include information I gained while attending the Musicians' Institute as well as many of my own information gathered from years playing. I can teach you theory, ear-training, music reading, rhythm guitar concepts, slide guitar, songwriting, improvisation, technique, and more. You just have to fill me in on what you'd like to learn. I ca gaurantee that you'll learn something new every lesson and after a few months you'll be able to look back and be amazed at how far you've come.
