Hi, my name is Nick and I recently graduated from Musician's Institute in March '08 with my Associate's Degree in Performing Arts, as well as the Most Outstanding Player award for the PIT (Percussion Institute of Technology) class. I love playing the drums with such a passion! I am so excited to have this opportunity with TakeLessons.com to share my love and knowledge of playing the instrument with others who are interested whether it be for a career in music or just a fun outlet to express oneself creatively. Along with this teaching gig I play in a couple local bands in Los Angeles. I have also recorded with San Francisco artist Scott Woods and appeared on his solo album which included such artists as Dennis Chambers (John Scofield, P-Funk, Santana) George Porter Jr. (The Meters) and Myron Dove (Santana, Robben Ford). Aside from music I work at The Healthy Bean coffee shop in West Hollywood which is great! When taking lessons with me you will get to do a lot of playing along with songs and loops. I am a firm believer, even with beginners who have never played, in constanly throwing on music to practice to because I don't think a drummer gets into playing because he/she wants to play alone at home for the rest of their life! A drummer must get in the habit of playing music. Plus that makes it so much more fun anyway! Depending on you, the student, and what you want, I can go "by the book" and get you very involved with reading, hand technique, and rudiments (which I highly recomend), or we can kick back and just jam along to music and learn some cool grooves. Ideally I would like to combine it all but that again depends on what your goals are and where you want to take your playing. I am very open to tailoring my lessons to each individual student. And most of all, my lesson will be FUN!
