Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

  • Apply online providing us information about your background
  • The TakeLessons recruiting team reviews your application. If it is a good match with our needs then we'll call you to schedule a phone interview.
  • If we accept you into the program, we will then do a thorough background and reference check.
  • We will also need you to set up your online profile: add your bio, picture, and sign the Teacher Contract.

How much will I be paid?

Pay rates are based on instructor experience and location. As a national company we also look at the current student activity and market conditions in the instructor's area to determine a fair rate.

What are the contract details I need to know?

  • Working with TakeLessons is non-exclusive. That means you can still work for other companies or find students on your own.
  • There are large penalties for soliciting TakeLessons students to pay you on the side, or take lessons outside of our system.
  • We require a one year commitment from instructors that we contract with. This helps maintain lesson continuity for our students.

When will the first student be placed with me?

We typically place our first student with a new instructor after 30 to 45 days. This gives the instructor time to finish their account setup, go through training, and familiarize themselves with the program.

This time frame can be greatly influenced by the instructor's availability, subjects taught, location, and background. The more flexible the instructor is, the easier it is to place students with them.

What are the fees associated with applying?

There is no fee to submit your application.

If accepted into the program, you will be responsible for a yearly certification fee of $49.00 that includes a criminal background and reference check. You do not have to pay this up front, as it will be deducted from your first paycheck automatically.

How am I paid?

You are paid as an independent contractor. Payroll is processed twice per month, and all instructors are paid by direct deposit.
