Matthieu has enjoyed a tremendous life as a pianist, singer and teacher. Originally from Grenoble in France, he is now based in New York.
As a singer, he was a member of famous choruses such as Il piccolo coro and the Chorus of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal under the direction of Charles Dutoit.
As a teacher, he has worked at renowned conservatories like the Saint Cloud Conservatory and the Anthony Conservatory in the Paris area.
As a pianist, he perfomed in France, Canada and the US works by Debussy, Chopin, Ravel, Bach, and also jazz standards in clubs.
Matthieu's training began with classical piano at age 3, followed by French horn at 9, and then voice and conducting.
He was a student of Janine Collet (école Cortot) in piano, Gilles Denizot (Geneva) in voice and Maestro Bellomia in conducting.
He won a first prize in the Valmalette piano contest in 1987, earned a Bachelor degree in Philosophy (and completed all courses besides the dissertation towards a Master's degree in Philosophy), and a Diploma in Music theory from the Chambery Conservatory.
As a conductor, he performed in Debussy's "Prelude to the afternoon of a faune", Dvorak's Symphony number 8, and Beethoven's First Symphony.
In piano, all ages and levels are welcome!
Matthieu is very patient with absolute beginners, and will follow your musical journey step by step. He is very open to many styles such as classical, jazz, blues, Disney and Broadway.
He provides his students with fine advice to relax the upper body in order to create a wonderful sound.
He thinks that the more you practice, the more you enjoy. Anyhow, if you don't practice, nothing will happen even with the best teacher!
Matthieu can help you if you want to prepare contests or auditions for Conservatories and Universities.
Music for him is a way of sharing emotions, so he is not in favor of any competitive spirit, but "if we don' t follow a beat it is impossible to play together..."
In voice, he can help advanced classical singers in the French and Italian repertoires - he loves Bizet, Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc, Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, and be the collaborative pianist for jazz singers.
