Three ways to get started
This instructor passed a criminal background check.
I have an extensive and varied background in music. I'm very versatile. I can teach up to College Level Voice, Percussion, Composition, General Music and audio engineering, as well as Beginning Flute, Clarinet, and Piano. I have a B.A. In Commercial Music and I am Certified in Music Education K-12 by Tennessee and Certified in ProTools. As Far as voice goes, I studied in college and I've been a choir director for over 4 years, as well as performing with Centenary College Camerata, Opera Workshop, Shreveport Opera, Music City Community Chorus, and now a member of Nashville Opera Chorus, as well as experience performing solo recitals. I have over 10 years experience playing percussion, including performing with the Centenary Jazz Band, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. I studied Music theory, history, and composition throughout college and am very qualified to teach any of these areas. I went to the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Science and can also teach Audio Engineering. Flute, Clarinet, and Piano have been secondary instruments of mine since middle school and I am very qualified to teach first and second year players as well. I love to play music and perform, and I love to teach. I'm very patient and love to see students succeed. If you're looking just for a hobby, just to improve for you local community band or church choir, or if you're looking to get on a path towards honor bands and choirs and college scholarships, I'm your guy.
I cannot tell you what to expect from me as a teacher, because every student is different. I have to teach you as individuals, find out what your goals are, and how hard you are willing to work to achieve them. Everyone is looking for something different when they decide to take lessons. Am I laidback or more strict? That depends, if this is just a hobby for you and your goals are small I am probably not going to push as hard as I would with someone who is preparing for auditions and honor band/choir or college for example. As a private teacher, my job is to teach to what ever you want to learn, as opposed to a college or school teacher that is going to teach whatever the school or curriculum tells them to teach. What will you achieve after 3-6 months with me? Depends on the instrument you are studying and your level staring the lessons. If you have not learned how, you will know how to read music by that time. You can expect your sense of pitch and reading skills will improve as well as tone, regardless of your instrument and current level of study. Beyond that, it is dependent on you.
I am classically trained, but familar with jazz, music theatre, and popular music.
