Eli is primarily a songwriter and he brings that creativity to all of his lessons.  He works with his students to create fun lessons in which their strengths are accessed and their weaker points developed.  He works with all ages, from the very young to the adult.  When working with younger children, he focuses on musical games, familiar songs, and collaborative compositions to engage the student in the lesson.  With older children and adults he teaches a balance of theory (reading music and or tab, learning scales and chord construction) with songs and ear training.  For interested students, he will provide the tools so that they can learn how to figure out songs themselves by ear and begin writing and recording their own ideas.

Eli can teach theory, composition, beginning electronic music and piano as well.  He has an MA in music composition from Mills college, a BA from Wesleyan University, is a member of the National Music Teachers Association, and is a practicing composer and performer.  He is a very accesible teacher and would love to hear from you!

He received his MA in Music Composition from Mills College in 2006 and is a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association.  He is primarily a songwriter, and so teaches all of his lessons and classes from a creative perspective, seeking to draw out each student’s individual voice.  He currently teaches guitar and composition to students of all ages and piano to children. 

I am a laid back teacher who works with the student to set the pace of the lesson.  I love music and I think that love is infectious.  I want my students to be as excited about playing as I am.  I also believe that progress is impossible without practicing, so while I will never be strict, I will encourage students to push themselves so that they can acheive their goals.

For guitar: rock is my main genre, folk and Jazz secondary.
For Piano: Rock is main, Classical secondary, Jazz third.
