Three ways to get started
This instructor passed a criminal background check.
Born and raised in Chicago I started studying drums and percussion at a young age. Almost immediately I took an interest in music from around the world. My twin passions for travel and music have fed my desire to learn and teach. I moved to New York in 2000 to attend NYU for a degree in Jazz performance which I finished in 2005. Living in New York has given me amazing opportunities to meet other musicians and perform and teach with them at home and abroad. These musical collaborations have brought me to Serbia, Costa Rica and Havana, Cuba
In addition to performing internationally I have developed a United Nations of friends and colleagues through my work as the house manager for the Jazz Gallery, a non-profit culture center that presents a stage for emerging artists.
In my work as both teacher and student, I find that learning is done best in an environment that encourages questioning and creativity. Every student has different interests. I strive to work with each student to find their voice on the instrument and how to best express it.
In lessons we will build a foundation of technique with an emphasis on how to best listen and interact with other musicians.
A typical lesson will include:
I specialize in Rock, Jazz, Funk and Afro-Cuban drumming
