"Thanks for a fun lesson. I feel that I learned quite a bit from even one session with you...."Emily is a thoughtful and imaginative teacher and performer. She has been teaching students of all ages and levels for over 10 years. In 2000 Emily began studying at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. While there she studied with Darrett Adkins, Frances Marie-Uitti and Peter Rejto.
Emily also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Oberlin College. Emily completed her Master’s of Music in contemporary music performance at the University of California, San Diego, studying with Charles Curtis. While at UCSD, Emily taught cello to the undergraduate students and also taught music history classes at the university.
As a performer, Emily has given many notable performances, including a chamber music concert at Carnegie Hall and a string quartet performance at the Smithsonian Hall of Musical Instruments on the museum-owned quartet of Stradivarius instruments. Since she has been in New York, she has performed with the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and the Wordless Music Ensemble, among other groups.
As a member of the Hutchins Consort, she has traveled around the country performing on the baritone violin, a member of the new violin family.

I specialize in contemporary music, as this is what I studied in graduate school. However, I play a lot of traditional repertoire.
In lessons, I always try to make students feel comfortable with experimenting and asking questions. Since every person is different, I take the time to find the way to play that is most comfortable and easy for the particular student. Also, I always find music that the student really likes, so that they will enjoy practicing it. When a student learns a new technique, or makes progress in some way, I am careful to make sure that they understand the progress they have made. By teaching them to enjoy their progress, I can keep students wanting to acheive more. Patience, creativity, and thoughtfulness on the part of both the teacher and student, make my lessons unique and rewarding.
